Choppy Sands
Choppy sands occur among dunes with steep slopes (greater than 20%.) With the help of the steep slope, gravity causes slippage of the surface soil, exposing the underlying sand along the dune hillside and often producing so-called “catsteps.” Click on the pictures below to view some examples of choppy sands.
